妈祖原名林默（公元960－987年），因生前出海救助过不少渔民和商船，死后遂被尊为海上女神。自宋朝开始，历代朝廷还敕封她“天妃”、“天后”、“天上圣母”等尊号，有记载的达到36次，并列入国家祀典。 据说，全世界华侨聚居地有妈祖庙不下千座，其中台湾就有五百八十多座。每逢农历三月二十三妈祖生日和九月初九妈祖忌日，庙宇内外，人山人海，香火鼎盛。
2007年，是妈祖诞辰1047年的日子。本组为天津天后宫的纪念活动。
The 1047th Anniversary of Mazu
Mazu，Chinese Goddess of the sea ，originated with the deification of a young woman named Lin Mo Niang (960 A.D.-987AD) who had performed numerous miracles during her short life. Many of the miracles she performed involved quelling storms at sea, so it is hardly surprising that she is known as the protector of all seafaring people。From the Song Dynasty, she was given numerous titles including
“Empress of Heaven” and "Holy Mother of Heaven"。
In 987 the Temple of Goddess Mazu was built in her memory which sits on Meizhou Island in Putian. After a millennium, there are already over 1,500 active temples。
Mazu festival holds on March23rd and September9th to celebrate her birthday and death anniversary。
